FAQ How does the process begin?
The first step is for you to describe your business goals and the scope of work. This is our opportunity to discuss your challenges and successes to date, your internal and external audiences, and relevant measures. We will also use this time to identify information sources within your company, and the overall research picture. I then provide an estimate, usually project-based with a related hourly rate. After we agree on the estimate, a project begins with a signed letter of agreement. Do you know my business? With my broad experience, I likely know your category. In addition, my years of agency life have trained me to become a fast—sometimes overnight—expert in a given field. If there’s one thing academic credentials guarantee, it’s great assimilation of information. It’s all about research, which is built into your project. Why should I use a freelancer? A freelancer offers distinct advantages over the best agency, and, many times, over your internal team. Writing can be time intensive, and it often makes better financial sense to allocate your staff toward higher margin activities. Also, with a freelancer, there is zero red tape—you’re one call away from a responsive, available partner who’s focused tightly on your business. At the same time, a freelancer can add a fresh perspective to your expertise. Is it OK if we live in different cities? Yes. Face to face relationships are great if possible, but we can collaborate equally well via email and phone. I’m busy. Do I have to manage you during the process? During a project, it is usually best for you to be accessible to answer an occasional question, or if required, to facilitate access to company information. Once a first draft is delivered, we may collaborate on revisions. The idea is to make the process as easy as possible for you. When does a project end? The goal is for a project to end when you are completely satisfied. After you review my first draft, we’ll have two rounds of revision to perfect it, at no additional cost. Will I hear from you after a project? Can I review your standard agreement? Sure. When you decide that you’d like my services, my template is available on request. We can then refine the structure that works best for our relationship. |
